Computer use in 2003
Nowadays, more and more people use computer and internet access, no mater their age: adults, older or children. The data show us the percentages of the people use them.
1. A/ The first data provide for us the percentages of the household used computer and internet access from 1984 to 2003.
v The percentages of households used computer increase 6%( growing from 56% to 62%) from 2001 to 2003. The proportion of households with internet access raise more than three times between 1997 and 2003(growing from18% to 56%).
v They were exerted widely, but use this technology is not similar among all groups. 35% of computers were found in household with a householder aged 65, 45% with a black or Hispanic householder, and 28% with a householder who wasn’t a high school graduate.
v 41% of one-person household and 46% of non-family have computers.
v 95% of the households which had an income over 100,000$ had at least one computer and 92% of them knew how to use.
v 41% of the households which had an income over 25,000$ own a computer and 31% of them had internet access.
v Three-quarters of household with children in school-age had a computer and 67% of them had internet access. In comparison, 57% of households without children in school-age had a computer and 50% had internet access.
2. B/ The second data show us the percentages of computer usage among children.
v School influences children’s access computers. In 1993, 61% of children used a computer at school. And in 2003, 83% of 57,000,000 used computers at school. From 1993 to 2003, the percentages of children- in 3 to17-with a computer at home increase 15%
In 2003, older children more likely to have a computer at home-70% of children age from 3 to 5 and 79% of those age from 15 to 17- and to use at home than younger ones- 95% compared with 67%.
In 2003, computer access varied by a child’s race and Hispanic origin. 85% of non Hispanic White or Asian had a computer at home compared with 54% of Black and Hispanic.
v Education of the householder is related to a child’s access to computer.47% of children live in householder with less than high school education had computer. 94% of children lived in a householder had at least a bachelor’s degree had a computer
v Family income influence with a child had a computer at home.47% of children had a computer in a household income under 25,000$ and 97% of those with a family income over 100,000.
3. C/ The third data give us the percentages of computer use among adults.
v The proportion of adults use computer anywhere jumped 46% from 1984 to 2003. And computer use was less widespread among adults than children.64% percent of adults used computer compared with 86% of children.
v In 2003, more women used computer than men. At work, women have had higher rates of computer use than men. In 1984, 29% of women used computer on the job compared with 21% of working man. In 2003, 63% of women and 51% of men used computer. And 47% women and 39% men used the internet on the job.
